Finding time to look glamorous when you have kids is like finding a needle in a haystack — well, of course, I’m just exaggerating but you know what I mean. Unlike before, it’s quite challenging to put that red lipstick on using your right hand while you carry the little one on your left. It’s a skill that we all moms should master. But seriously, as much as we love our kids, we should NOT forget about ourselves.
Personally, I look like a mess during and after pregnancy. I never thought that the changes will indeed, change me a lot. And although I wonder how those Instamoms (Instagram moms) manage to look glam even with a child, I know that I’m not alone. I know that there are a lot of mothers who still want to look presentable and there’s nothing wrong with that. After all, looking good is feeling good.
So, if you’re someone like me who needs a few tips on how to look good despite the hectic schedule, here are a few beauty hacks for busy moms.
Pamper Yourself Before Going To Sleep
Ever heard of the saying: “When the cat’s away, the mice will play”?
After putting the kids to bed, use that precious time for that much-deserved warm shower. Bring your smartphone in the bathroom and place it somewhere dry. Next, celebrate bathtime with your favorite bath bomb and pour yourself a glass of wine while you listen to relaxing music. Or, you can simply read a book as you let the warm water soothes your tired body. Not only does this make you clean and smelling great, but it also get you ready for the next day’s adventure.
Invest In The Right Skincare
When I became a mom, I rarely put makeup. However, I hate it when I see blemishes and other signs of aging so instead of taking time to cover it using a concealer, I invest in the right skincare. It doesn’t necessarily mean buying expensive products or following the 12-steps Korean skincare; rather, it’s about using essentials that suit your skin type.
As for me, I use a gentle cleanser, toner, essence, eye cream, sunscreen, and a moisturizer to take care of my skin. Plus, the best skincare essential of all — WATER! Hydrate as much as you can to keep your skin moisturized.
Carry A Few Makeup Essentials
Gone are the days when you have all the time in the world to doll up; now, you can’t even put a lipstick in peace. So if you’re busy or you’re simply too lazy, what you can do is keep a tiny kit that would include the most important cosmetics:
- A concealer to make it look like you had an 8-hour of undisrupted sleep
- A lipstick to give instant color to your face
- A loose powder to remove excess oil instantly
In line with this, it’s also ideal to buy double-duty products like sunscreen and tinted moisturizer in-one, a lip tint for the lips and cheeks, and highlight and contour stick.
Have A Shorter Haircut Or Bring Ponytails
Although there are a lot of moms who can manage long hairstyles, first-time moms or moms with infants could take advantage of shorter haircuts like A-line bob or pixie. If you can’t give up your long hair, then put it in a neat or that trendy messy bun. That being said, you should always have a hair tie ready.
Workout Pants For The Win
I love dresses and skirts but every time I wear one, my kids would dangle on it or lift it. Talking about #MomFails! I learned my lesson the hard way so every time I’m out with my child, I wear workout pants just to be safe. Find booty-lifting yoga pants to look better when chasing your kids around the restaurant or when changing nappies.
Have An Eyelash Extension
If you have extra cash and you want to save time to look fab in an instant, you can invest on eyelash extension or microblading. So instead of curling your lashes and applying mascara or taking hours of perfecting your eyebrows, you are all set and ready to go!
Skip The Nail Polish
Aside from diaper rashes, another painful thing to look at are chipped nails and since we don’t have the luxury or time to go to a salon anytime we want, what we can do is skip nail polish for the meantime. And by that, until our little ones have grown into a man or a woman.
Kidding aside, having a clear topcoat instead of a colored nail polish makes life 10 times easier since you don’t have to worry about your nails anymore.
These are just of the powerful hacks you can try if you want to look good while juggling work, the entire household, your kids, and sanity. Which tip is your favorite?
